Friday’s Super Conference was great. The Metro Convention Centre was packed with publishers, librarians, and fellow authors all eager to buy, sell and talk about books. What can be better than that?
Being on time for your own signing, for one thing. Troubles on the TTC meant I missed my slotted time (yikes!) However, despite my tardiness there was soon a good crowd of folks at the table and I had a lot of fun meeting them all and signing copies of Max Finder Mystery Collected Casebook Vol. 1. Thanks to everyone who came out and waited.
There was also good crowd for the CANSCAIP Mass Book Launch over the lunch break at the conference. I managed to catch Sylvia McNicoll, Jo Ellen Bogart, James Bow, Helaine Becker and Sean Cassidy all talk about their new books. I also gave a little pitch about Max Finder Mystery and managed not to drop the microphone, so I’ll chalk it up as a success.
I also had a chance to drop by the Orca booth and get a sneak peak at a mock up of Wild Ride, my new graphic novel due out this fall. It looks fantastic. It’s always an amazing feeling to hold in your hands for the first time the nearly finished book of one of your stories. I’ll never get tired of that thrill of seeing something that started out as a simple word processing document transformed into an actual real book. Unfortunately, I had to give the mock-up back despite my best efforts to sneak away with it. Dang!
All in all, it was definitely a fun day. It’s always great to get out from behind the computer screen and meet your fellow children’s authors, talk shop and see old friends again. But that’s over, so it’s back to the keyboard and looming deadlines! Now, where’s my coffee?
Yay! It sounds like you had a wonderful time. I’m glad 🙂
Yeah, it was a great day. And I always enjoy getting out and catching up with the other kids writers out there. Reminds me that I’m not alone in this very strange profession I’ve chosen (or chosen me really.)
