One of the best things about being a writer is being asked to read other writers’ stuff and tell them what I think about it (aka reviews.) In the past, I’ve reviewed books for newspapers I won’t mention and magazines I’m happy to talk about. So, it was with great pleasure last summer that I was asked to help pick the Best Bets in Canadian middle grade fiction for the Canadian Children’s Book Centre. It’s winter now, I’m at it again. However, this time I’m choosing the best Canadian Young Adult novels for the 2013 edition of the CCBC’s “Best Books for Kids & Teens” Magazine.
And here’s a photo to prove it!
There’s a lot of really great books in there and I’ve had a blast reading through them over the holidays. Highlights from the box so far are:
Close to the Heel by Norah McClintock
The Friday Society by Adrienne Kress
The Darkest Corner of the World by Urve Tamberg
We read them alphabetically by title and I’m only at “F”, so I have a way to go before all the judges meet in February. So, see ya later.
I’ve got some reading to do.
