If I have a blog it means that it?s officially exploded into the mainstream. I am not by nature an early adapter, but I do watch technology and I?m usually aware of new things like XFN / FOAF long before I jump in. As a writer for kids, I?ve been wondering how teenagers are using blogs. This great article by Emily Nussbaum appeared in last Sunday?s New York Times Magazine examines the world of teen blogs.

The results are both expected and surprising. Most teenager?s use their blogs as online diaries where they gossip, rant and confess to some very intimate details. Some blog for therapy, others for popularity.

The internet, IM, and blogs give us the tools to write, but Clive Thompson (where I found the article) points out that the internet has given Americans something that many of them never had before: a reason to write ? a lot.

With a reason in mind and tools in hand, teenagers are using blogs to create their own reality programming.
But aren?t we all?
