August is shaping up to be a busy month for the GamingEdus, the collective of gaming teachers I belong to. We have two big events for educators curious to learn more about using video games like Minecraft with their students.

GamingEdus Server Open House Event

If you’re an educator curious about using Minecraft with your students, the GamingEdus invite you to take a tour of our server during our first Open House Event on August 21st at 7pm EST.

Along with my fellow GamingEdus we’ll be opening the doors to our server for educators interesting in learning more about using Minecraft with their students.

We are always open to new players join our server, but the Open House Event is a chance for educators without a Minecraft account to check out the game.

It’s a free event and no Minecraft account is needed. We have a limited number of Minecraft accounts to lend to people. All you need is an internet connection and a copy of Minecraft installed on your computer (we can help with that.)

If you’d like to check out our server, learn more about using Minecraft in education and meet a bunch of fun (and friendly) educators, then email us at: gamingedus@gmail.com and we’ll get you set up.

Talking Minecraft at Academy of the Impossible

The Minecraft fun continues at the Academy of the Impossible, on August 23rd at 7pm EST. If you’re in Toronto and curious about Minecraft in schools, join us for Minecraft: Multi-School Mayhem & Learning, where we will  share their epic wins and fails from our recent Multi-School Minecraft Server Project.

The first year of the Multi-School Minecraft Server Project brought together 30 students from 3 schools to play on one shared Minecraft world. The results were lots of explosions, plenty of failing, some pvping and a whole bunch of authentic learning. We’re hoping to add more schools to the project this coming September. Together with my, GamingEdu pals,we’ll talk about how the project started, what worked and what didn’t and how more teachers can get involved in the coming school year.

If you’re in Toronto, please come out and join us. We’d love to meet you and help you get started using Minecraft in your school. You can RSVP at the Facebook event page or visit The Academy of the Impossible for more information.
