I’ve been a bit slow to post about my upcoming and recent school visits, so here’s quick rundown of where I’ve been and where I’m going in the coming days:

Last Wednesday, I spend the morning talking comics with grade 7 – 8 students at East Garafraxa Public School, in the Upper Grand District School Board. Despite getting slightly lost on the way there, I made it to the school on time and had the kids were all fired up to find out how comics are made. There were many budding writers there and budding illustrators all with great questions for me. Thanks to all the teachers and students who helped make that day a lot of fun.

Also at East Garry (as it’s known apparently) that day was Silver Birch nominee, and all around great person, L. M. Falcone. She gave a great spooky talk to the junior grades about her new book Walking with the Dead.

Next week, the Max Finder Mystery Tour hits the road once again. This time, I’ll be visiting schools in and around Windsor to share the secrets of mystery writing and comic creation.

It all starts on Tuesday afternoon at Prince Andrew Public School in LaSalle. Then Wednesday I’ll be at Oakwood Public School in the morning and Glenwood Public School in the afternoon. The tour wraps up on Thursday, where I’ll be presenting at Princess Anne Public School in the morning. Starting with a prince and ending with a princess with some foresty schools in between – not a bad combination.

I’m excited as this will be the biggest tour I’ve done to date. I’m really looking forward to meeting all the kids to show them how comics are made and how they can create their own mysterious adventures.

And finally, I’ve also got to mention that I’ve been selected as a touring author for the 2007 Children’s Book Week, which is pretty cool. The tour kicks off in November and I have no idea where I’ll be touring, but wherever I go, I know I’ll meet some great students along the way. More on that in the coming weeks.

Now, all I have to do is squeeze in some time to actually get some writing done.
