The librarians are coming! The librarians are coming! And I’m going to meet them. On Friday anyway. At the OLA Super Conference. Say around 2 pm? The Orca booth sound good? Great! See you there. Play your cards right and you could walk away with your very own copy of Wild Ride! (and by play your cards, I mean come and say hi to me.)
And while you’re there, say hi to Patricia Storms too! She’s going to be signing her spooktastic book, 13 Ghosts of Halloween and presenting at the annual CANSCAIP Mass Book Launch (which isn’t a book launch happening in a Catholic church, thank - er, whomever.)
See you there!
Wild Ride came out last October and since then it’s garnered some very nice reviews. I’ve posted them over at the Graphic Guide Adventures website, but I know you’re a busy person, so they’re re-posted here for your convenience (ain’t I thoughtful?)
” . . . the easy-to-follow survival adventure will engage reluctant readers, especially ones curious about survival skills. Deas’ full-color art is packed with action . . .”
Booklist, January 1, 2008
“ Fans of graphic novels will like the edgy, clever illustrations and the zippy back-and-forth dialogue . . .[readers] will certainly enjoy this fast-paced, well-drawn story.”
Quill and Quire, December 2007
“For those (and there certainly are many) upper elementary and middle school students who have been caught up in the graphic novel craze, Wild Ride will provide them with the excitement, artwork, drama and, very importantly, the reading ease that they are looking for.
Recommended.”
Canadian Materials Magazine, Nov 9, 2007
More media hype as it rolls in . . .
This year’s Ontario Library Association (OLA) Super Conference is happening here in Toronto from January 30th to February 2nd and for the second year running, I have the honour of attending.
On Friday February 1st at 2pm, I’ll be at the Orca booth, signing copies of Wild Ride, my new graphic novel and first in the Graphic Guide Adventure series.
The OLA Super Conference is always a great event because it’s attended by some of children’s authors biggest supporters: librarians!
They’re the ones who find our books and put them into the hands of young readers, hopefully making them fans of not only our work, but of reading in general. I can’t think of a more important job than that. So, thank you librarians and keep up the great work!
Goodbye 2007. Hello 2008! Happy new year to all. May your year be filled with many good books and may many of them be mine!
2007 was a great year filled with a crop of new releases that I am very proud of and a trip to Canada’s Arctic that I’ll never forget. It was also a very hectic year for me outside of writing, but you’ll have to read my blog feeding change to learn more about that. 2008 promises to be another book-jammed year with a few new releases from Capstone Press and another addition to the Graphic Guide Adventures series from Orca.
But before we get to that, I’ll leave you with a 2007 release that I haven’t mentioned yet: Scout Hits the Trail, from Soundprints. I’ve so lazy busy with stuff that I haven’t added this title to the website, so you’ll have to read about it on Amazon. I’ll have more info on it in the very near future, once I get my butt in gear things slow down a bit for me.
In the meantime, enjoy 2008’s new car smell.
